In a recent interview, Chris Pine, the charismatic actor known for his roles in Wonder Woman, Star Trek, and Dungeons & Dragons, shared an exciting update about the highly anticipated sequel to the fantasy epic, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Fans of the franchise have been eagerly awaiting news, and Pine’s remarks shed light on the project’s future.

He said that he’s heard “rumors” of the sequel happening, and while he can’t say for completely certain that it will come to be, Pine teases that he’s “confident” that it will. Noting that he would “absolutely” return if asked, the actor explained, “I’ve heard some rumors about it. But I don’t know anything yet. But I feel pretty confident that it may happen.”

Released in 2023, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves proved to be a box office hit, earning over $208 million worldwide against its $150 million budget. The film received widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences, boasting a 90% critic score and an impressive 93% audience rating.

During an interview with Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins, the topic of a sequel naturally arose. Robbins confirmed that a sequel or follow-up to Dungeons & Dragons hasn’t been abandoned.

The co-writers and co-directors of Dungeons & Dragons, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, also weighed in on the possibility of a sequel. Daley expressed that the positive response from audiences validated their approach to infusing humor into the film. He stated, “Humor would help bolster the stakes. You have these characters that are relatable and able to comment on their circumstances in a fun, humorous way”. The balance between comedy and high-stakes adventure resonated with viewers, and Daley and Goldstein would likely continue leaning toward this tone in any follow-up.

Goldstein teased potential elements for the sequel, including the return of the beloved Owlbear and the tantalizing possibility of encountering a Beholder. However, he emphasized that the heart of the decision would be “what’s the most compelling story to tell”. Fans can expect character growth, new challenges, and perhaps even deeper dives into the rich lore of the Dungeons & Dragons universe.

Daley clarified that their primary goal was to get the first film right, rather than prematurely planning a franchise. He stated, “It was never our intention when we came on board this film to make a franchise. I think that would cloud our ability to focus entirely on the film at hand”. By prioritizing quality storytelling, the creative team hopes to lay a solid foundation for any potential sequels.
