Denis Villeneuve, the director of the upcoming movie Dune: Part Two, has revealed that he is unlikely to direct the third movie in the series, Dune: Messiah, despite having an “almost finished” script.

In a recent interview, Villeneuve explained that he is currently focused on Dune: Part Two and that he wants to take a break before embarking on another project. He also expressed his desire to work on a smaller project before returning to the world of Dune.

Villeneuve has long expressed his desire to turn Dune into a trilogy, stating last summer in an interview with Empire magazine, “If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream”.

Dune: Part Two is currently scheduled for release on March 1, 2024. The movie is a sequel to the 2021 film Dune, which was directed by Villeneuve and received critical acclaim. The director has also revealed that he is almost finished writing the script for a third movie in the series.

Villeneuve is also executive producing a Dune television series for Warner Bros.
