HBO develops new Game of Thrones spin-off centered on Aegon Targaryen

HBO is developing a new Game of Thrones spin-off series based on Aegon’s Conquest, according to recent reports. The show will be set before the events of House of the Dragon, which is itself a prequel to Game of Thrones, and will focus on House Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros, led by Aegon Targaryen and his sister wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, and their formidable dragons. The series is being developed in partnership with screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, who helped director Matt Reeves shape his first The Batman story and is working again with Reeves on The Batman Part II.

Aegon’s Conquest was a massive success, as he was able to wrest control and unite six of the Seven Kingdoms, with the lone holdout being the southernmost kingdom of Dorne. While House of the Dragon has been a qualified success for HBO, they’ve been very careful about which Game of Thrones spinoffs they push all the way across the finish line. The next in line is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which is based on George R. R. Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” novellas and is set to go into production this year.

The new series will be centered on House Targaryen’s brutal conquest of Westeros, and it is expected to be a hit among fans of the original series. HBO has not yet announced a release date for the show, but it is expected to air sometime in the near future. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new series!
